Hard Work

Its been hard work for the last two days, a lot of soil and turf to move, we were extending the trench by about 5 foot on two sides to make the trench look nice and square. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the hard manual work, I’ve started to think I should become a Navvy.

Today was far better than yesterday it was no where near as sunny, the last few days had been unbearably hot. I had the good idea of freezing a big bottle of water and taking that, this continued up to the point where I was really thirsty and all I had to drink was a bottle full of unmelted ice.

I received some Black & White film developing chemicals to develop the photos i take with my home-made pinhole camera. I’ll post the photos once i get round to developing them and taking them, I’m not expecting them to be very good after all it is my first time making and using a pin hole camera and my first time developing film.

If I was to say that it was as hot as the surface of the sun it would be am massive overstatement… but not by much. Well it has been really hot for the last few days but I wasn’t out in the sun all through midday.

Today was the first day out in the field proper on my Archaeology course, and its about time because I have started to feel University becoming more and more jaded especially the pointless essays and boring lectures… which is basically all University is. We were given a tour of the cemetery, yes the cemetery we wont be bigging that up but apparently its important at Strata Florida (A symbol of Welshness). Then the most important part of any day the tea break, afterwards we were shown around the Abbey woods to see some old features, and by the end of the day we finally go around to doing some troweling, whilst trying not to laugh at the people who have the complete wrong type of trowel.

I think I have discovered that my boots are too small because I now have loads of little blisters all over my feet.

*Sigh*

I haven’t written an entry in ages… well over a month, I suppose that isn’t all that long when you think that some people make one or two posts then give up, or don’t post at all.

That last post which just says hello, I just wanted to test whether this worked because I now have a program which post to my Blog direct from my desktop, which should make it more convenient and perhaps make me post more often.

Just talked to Jenny over Facebook chat and she had something to tell be something really good but made me promise not to tell anyone else, I miss her when I’m way more than anyone else (but then she is the only one I miss).

Strangely I have started to think whether it is really worth me doing this degree, it may seem childish of me but when older I want to try and be as self-sufficient as possible so only a small part time job would be needed if any at all. I’ve become less and less interested in this consumerist decadence which is the current state of the society (that seemed like such a cool thing to type it needed to be in italics). Seriously though the prospect of working in an office or any job for the rest of my life living it like everyone else is not very attractive to me.

That just sounds like… I don’t know really but probably not good.

Best thing I saw today was what appeared to be a broken down recovery truck nothing can possible be more ironic than that.
Went to the shop and everyone I know seem to work there it quite strange, well an exaggeration three people i know work there and I do know a few more than just three people.
I’ve started reading through the Green parties Manifesto its interesting and I believe in many of the things its saying but then that is what its designed to do so I not all the surprised. After i finish their manifesto I may move the the Lib Dem’s and the Conservative, I’m reading all this and yet I’m not sure if I’m registered to vote I suppose I should really sort that out.

Late again but the internet here is about as fast a a snail with a limp and about as reliable as one.
Nothing much happened as usual around here there seems to be extremely little to do. I started a new Blog on Tumblr hopefully it going to be mostly about the environment and again as with here I’m going to try to post every day, maybe except for weekends. the address is stivnc@tumblr.com

Quick update 13/04/2010 Day #8

Sorry its going to be a quick update today because I’m really tired.
Canoeing today helped coach Jenny with a group of new starters which was in all honesty really boring we did a warm up then stood by the canal for about 10 15 minutes just discussing how to put the boats in the water and how to paddle all the time whilst getting cold. when on the water everything seemed to go equally slow as well. Jenny only had chance to coach one canoeing stroke really which was the draw stroke, but which time I had taught the person I was with how to do a Draw stroke, a Sweep stroke, an emergency stop, bow rudder. With her style of coaching which is probably the BCU’s method is to talk and faff around a lot whilst getting next to nothing done. My style is to through them in at the deep end and they swim or sink, but also give them a few pointers along the way to make sure they at least have a chance of swimming. But I couldn’t really complain as I had sort of volunteered meaning I didn’t struggle at all not to do it, mainly because I really like Jenny .

I had another headache so I didn’t do a blog.
Well in the morning me and my Nain did the Quarrymans walk, which is a walk around some quarry’s in my area (as if that took too much to workout). What was really bad was the amount of litter that was all over the place, every where. It terrible, but then I suppose thats what happens in Chav central. Every one hates chavs apart from chavs unless they are self hating chavs, would that make them emo-chavs? But there was litter and graffiti everywhere even behind ten foot fences with barbed wire and razor wire on the other side, they go through so much trouble to dump tires and other rubbish it would just be easier to dispose of it properly. But then part of the blame must go to the companies who owned the quarries because they didn’t reclaim the land and so it invites people to do that.

Socialness 11/04/2010 Day #6

I just had a relaxing day today, whilst my parents and grandma took my brother back to work/university.
My Grandma, I think, disagrees with me being on my laptop, she says its anti-social because I’m sitting at my laptop not talking to anyone in the room. I thinks shes wrong, naturally, there are now two types of socialness there’s traditional face to face and there’s also new over the internet, she seem to think that everyone online are perverts and other such people. I think that new social networking like blogs, vlog, facebook and so on are more important now than traditional socialness, with the new social networks we can break down the old barriers of stereotypes. We have the power to talk to people on the other side of the world anonymously or not, face to face or not, surly this is better than merely having a small social life isolated to the area of were you and you friends and family live. With the internet we can spread our ideas farther faster, and learn from each other.
Then again there is the other side of the coin, where haters and trolls can destroy, people, and where dangerous ideas can spread fast and kill. But no one should be allowed to do that, and yet no one should be silenced…. trick situation there.
Don’t get me wrong Traditional socialness is very important as well, to get out, to meet people, to love people. Both forms of socialness are equally as important as each other for different reasons.
Wow that seemed all philosophical and stuffs, just to ruin the mood and what not.
